Teenage Pregnancies affects academics.
Girls who receive an education are better equipped to make decisions and to support themselves financially. Early pregnancy, however, puts girls' ability to complete their schooling at risk. Due to expulsion from schools, personal reasons like having to care for their children or being stigmatized by family, friends, and communities, teenage pregnancy and childbearing can cause girls to drop out of school. (The World Bank, 2022)
Teachers stated that there is a significant difference between a learner's academic performance before and after pregnancy because pregnant students miss a lot of school-related activities like lessons, homework, exams, and so forth. The teachers' list of reasons for absences from class includes absenteeism due to pregnancy-related problems and general fatigue, particularly when the girl is about to give birth. Additionally, teenage mothers begin to acquire a negative attitude toward their academic work, whereby they begin to focus on their children's responsibilities rather than their own future, also, it will just not be easy to concentrate on your studies because, particularly if you're a teenager, your mental health will be affected by pregnancy. (Maemeko, 2018)
Yes, teenage pregnancy has an impact on academic performance, but life doesn't stop there. Girls can still succeed, and there is still room for growth and improvement. Success delayed is not success denied.
"I hope that teen moms realize that their path to success still exists, and the only way to achieve it is to make the decision to go after it" -Alicia T Bowens
